Maintenance Window

*** Updated, scroll down ***   Work will take place between 0100 and 0300 Wednesday morning. During this time connection to The Internet and IDC (Invermay Data Centre) will impacted.

A core network element is being replaced.

Planned Work

A number of end connections will go offline while the maintenance takes place. Once complete it is expected end connections will return online automatically. If this does not happen, then restarting the router is the first step to take.

The purpose of the work is to replace the item below which has reached end of life.

The new core network element below is the high performance replacement. Staff will attend and fit the new unit close to the existing one. Once operation is confirmed cutover will be performed. The network will be monitored closely to see that operation is as expected.

In the event of issues being encountered cutover will not proceed. We will update this page and advise if the work is rescheduled. As always if you have any questions or encounter issues please get in touch.

Work Outcome

"The operation was not a success, but the patient is fine". Changeover proceeded but we encountered an issue with one of the fibre connections not coming fully ready in the new equipment. Time was spent troubleshooting and speaking with even further upstream faults service. With the matter unresolved it was decided to roll back at 0252.

Today the migration with be reviewed and we will post later on this page whether the backup maintenance window set for this evening (early Thursday morning) will be taken up. Some cross-connect fibre was left in place and will support diagnosis during the day.

16:00 Further update. We have acquired additional elements which we will use to test on the cross -connect some time after 10:30pm. If testing is successful then we will proceed with cutover sometime after 11:30pm. This will comprise 2-3 5 minute breaks in service while connections are moved.

3 September  Further update. The changeover did not complete successfuly so we have remained on the original equipment. Additional fibre optic hardware has now arrived and is in the process of being verified for service. A later maintenance window will be advised and we will cut over to new shiny.
